Because of the succes of the Canon Canonet, Canon continued to expand the series and produced a total of 18 different models. The Canonet series cameras are considered to be the reason of Canon's worldwide fame.
Fun fact: On the day of the launch in 1961, Canonet units stocked for sale at Mitsukoshi's Nihonbashi department store in central Tokyo sold out in two hours.
